Wood Smoked Meats and Craft Brews: An Ode to the Blue Smokehouse Albuquerque Expansion
As a nod toward our expansion of the Blue Smokehouse Albuquerque, we're diving into some details on what makes our BBQ and brews special. We're excited about all the changes we're making, including offering 18 taps instead of 10 after our remodel! To quote the wise Spock, "Change is the essential process of all existence."
We can’t wait for you to see our changes!
What Makes Blue Smokehouse the Best Barbeque in Albuquerque?
We like to think Blue Smokehouse is one of the best BBQ places to eat in Albuquerque because of the delicious BBQ sauce we add and the rubs we've curated for our meats. Unlike most BBQ sauces that use hot sauce or cayenne pepper for heat, we're adding in New Mexico red chiles for a smokier flavor that accents the flavor of each meat cut.
Our rib spice rub includes seasonings like mustard, brown sugar, salt, pepper, and an array of spices that perfectly complements the heartiness of the ribs. Check out our menu and stop by to taste it in person!
How Does Smoking Meat with Wood Make a Difference?
Smoking meat with wood, a practice we’re no stranger to, helps create a delightful smokey flavor. The taste varies depending on which type of wood that’s used, like cherry, oak, and maple. Here at our brewery restaurant Albuquerque location, we use a combination of hardwoods that hail from New Mexico.
Hickory and pecan wood from various New Mexico regions help elevate our smoked meats by providing a milder smokiness than softwoods. These hardwoods naturally offer a rich, caramelized flavor to meats helping us create our highly talked about favorites like the burnt ends or pulled pork sandwich. Pair a ½ pound of smoked meat with one of our NM soul food options, like our southern fried fish and chips, for the best of both worlds.
What Makes Nexus Brewery One of the Best Craft Beer Restaurants Albuquerque?
If you asked us what pairs best with NM BBQ and soul food, we’d tell you a craft beer from our brewery! Backed by head brewer Randy King, Nexus continually offers innovative beer flavors that perfectly complement our NM-inspired menu.
This attention to detail has helped separate ourselves from other Albuquerque breweries like Kellys Brew Pub and Red Door Brewing Company.
For example, our New Mexico Snow (IPA) incorporates a hint of melon and citrus to create a light, aromatic brew that will pair perfectly with heavier meats like our brisket. A bright, refreshing, crisp flavor will create the ultimate BBQ experience during a visit.
Top Choices From Our Own Specialty House Beers
Here are a few of our brewed onsite delicious beers that you can sip on during your next visit.
Imperial Cream Ale
A Nexus favorite, this ale is refreshing, crisp, smooth, and a multiple award winner (World Beer Cup + GABF). Try it with fried chicken for the perfect pairing.
Another Nexus top choice and one of our most flavorful beers, our chocolate porter, is one option that works well with anything on our BBQ menu. It's roasty, luscious, and a real treat!
Class M Marzen
This brew is a seasonal option that offers flavor notes of straw and cereal. It’s slightly sweet and slightly dry, with a hint of toastiness. Enjoy it with hot links when you come in!
Nexus Brewery is also one of the available private venues for rent (Albuquerque). We’re here to provide you with delicious eats and carefully crafted brews.
